Aerial Sweep

Paintings on paper suggested by the Southern California landscape, a fairly reckless experiment in rearranging the natural world to serve human needs. Seen from the air, the built environment transforms to abstract patterns that convey unremitting, if not always legible, human design on the natural environment. In these pieces, scumbled surfaces built up on discarded maps and paper are superimposed with grid-like forms suggested by suburban configurations, transportation networks and industrial installations.
